Honda has revealed the refreshed 2027 Civic Type R. The hot hatch gets a more aggressive front end, tweaks to its handling, and heated front seats for the first time. Honda says it will start arriving at US dealerships this month.

The engine is unchanged. The changes are about cooling, comfort and feel.

What's new on the 2027 Civic Type R

Up front, Honda has fitted a deeper splitter and a larger grille opening. The company says the new shape increases downforce and reduces turbulence. That improves engine cooling and helps the car hold its performance during hard track driving.

Honda has also made several driving changes:

  • Suspension: Damping in +R mode has been optimized. Honda says this improves road-following and reduces bouncing and impact harshness.
  • Gearbox: The rev-match system now responds faster on downshifts. The car is still sold only with a manual transmission.
  • Brakes: A yoke spring on the brake pedal removes play in the linkage, which Honda says gives a more direct feel.
  • Engine bay: A redesigned engine cover takes its look from early Type R models sold in Japan.

A new color, Meteorite Gray Metallic, joins Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl and Championship White.

Inside: heated seats and more tech

The red front sport seats are heated for the first time, with three-level controls placed near the climate knobs. The seat upholstery has a new perforation pattern. The dash and front door panels now use Ultrasuede trim.

Honda lists Google built-in and Google Gemini among the new standard features. CarBuzz also reports an auto-dimming rearview mirror and two USB-C ports above the wireless phone charger. It adds that the driver-assist suite gains Post-Collision Braking, which applies the brakes after a crash to help avoid follow-on impacts.

Price and power

Honda lists the 2027 Civic Type R at an MSRP of $48,695. CarBuzz says that is $1,300 more than the 2026 model.

Car and Driver gives a starting price of $49,990. The sources do not explain the gap. Honda's own figure is the one to rely on until it is clarified.

The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder still makes 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, according to CarBuzz, and still drives the front wheels. Honda says this makes it the most powerful Honda production vehicle ever sold in the US. The engine is built at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio. CarBuzz says the car itself is built in Japan.

Why it matters

The update coincides with two anniversaries. Honda says 2027 is the 30th year of the Civic Type R globally and the 10th in North America. It also calls the car the best-selling hot hatch in America.

CarBuzz reports that a more powerful, lighter Type R wearing Honda's HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) badge is expected soon. It says that car is aimed at rivals such as the Toyota GRMN Corolla. Honda's release, as provided, does not confirm this, so treat it as an expectation for now.

Buyers who want one should check with local dealers. Honda has said only that cars begin arriving this month.
