Forza Horizon 6 Delayed on PS5 to January 2027, Launching Alongside an Expansion
Forza Horizon 6 will now reach PS5 on January 26, 2027, not in 2026 as first promised, and the Xbox and PC versions are already out.
Forza Horizon 6 is officially coming to PS5 in January 2027, after months of rumors that the port had slipped. The date confirms an earlier leak and means PlayStation players will wait longer than Playground Games first indicated, when it said the PS5 version would arrive later in 2026.
What we know
Playground Games and Xbox confirmed the January 26 date. According to Polygon, Sony Interactive Entertainment also confirmed the Jan. 26, 2027 date on Thursday.
The PS5 release will coincide with the game's first expansion. VGC reports that people who buy the Premium Edition can start playing up to five days early, on January 21. That also gives them access to the expansion on day one.
The Verge reports that the expansion will also come to Xbox and PC in January.
Are Xbox and PC affected?
No. The delay applies only to the PS5 version. Forza Horizon 6 is already on Xbox and PC, where it launched in May to strong reviews. The sources disagree on the exact May date, so we are not citing one.
VGC's review called it "an essential racing game." Polygon describes it as one of the year's most popular games.
Why the delay is a talking point
Polygon notes that the confirmation came shortly after Playground Games had denied the PS5 port was being delayed. VGC adds that the studio said in September that the game was still due this year. Polygon also says the studio recently apologized on X for poor communication about content updates and fixes.
Polygon ties the situation to a wider Xbox "reset" that it says has brought job cuts and studio sales, and suggests Xbox may be de-prioritizing PlayStation launches. It points to Halo: Campaign Evolved, which has come to PlayStation, and to a reported Gears of War: E-Day port that was allegedly canceled. That is Polygon's reading, and Xbox has not said so in these reports.
The numbers
An Alinea Analytics report cited by Polygon estimates Forza Horizon 6 has sold more than 7.4 million copies and earned about $534.3 million, all before the PS5 launch. These are analyst estimates, not official figures.
For comparison, Polygon says Forza Horizon 5 sold over five million copies on PS5 in 2025, when it was released on the platform. The Verge notes that the previous game proved popular there.
What it means for you
If you play on PS5, the earliest you can start is January 21, and only with the Premium Edition. Everyone else can play from January 26. If you want to play now, the Xbox and PC versions are available.
The expansion arrives on PS5 at launch, so PlayStation players won't have to catch up on it later.
