PEAK Is Out Now on Xbox Series X|S With Crossplay and All Content Updates
The co-op climbing game from Aggro Crab and Landfall has launched on Xbox Series X|S, bringing crossplay, a daily-changing mountain and every post-launch update.
The co-op climbing game PEAK has launched on Xbox Series X|S. Xbox Wire announced the release, saying the game is built around working together with your troop to cross an island after a crash landing. The Xbox version supports crossplay, so players can mix platforms when they build a team.
What PEAK is
You play as a lost nature scout, either solo or with friends. Your only way off the mysterious island is to climb the mountain at its center. Xbox Wire describes it as a game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom.
The climb runs through four biomes, each with its own life-threatening obstacles. You have to scavenge for questionable food to survive and manage your injuries, because every setback limits your stamina and makes climbing harder.
Survival items include energy drinks, climbing spikes and the mysterious Anti-Rope. The post says you won't reach the top unless you use every advantage you find.
Co-op, crossplay and the daily mountain
Multiplayer is friends-only. You can invite up to three other scouts online, or take on the mountain alone.
The map rotates every 24 hours. You can try the new layout each day, or keep attempting the same island within a day until you beat it. Players can help each other up ledges, or place ropes and climbing spikes for those who follow.
Dozens of badges and cosmetics are there to earn and unlock. Xbox Wire says this release includes all content updates released for the game.
Who made it
PEAK is a collaboration between two studios, Aggro Crab and Landfall, who call themselves Team PEAK. Aggro Crab is a Seattle studio known for Another Crab's Treasure and Going Under. Landfall is based in Stockholm and has made Content Warning, Haste, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and Stick Fight: The Game.
The studios met at a game developer conference in 2022. After the success of Another Crab's Treasure and Content Warning, they decided to make a small game together as part of a game jam.
The theme was first discussed in a hot tub in Sweden. Three Aggro Crab developers and four Landfall developers then spent a month in a rented apartment in South Korea making the game, according to the post.
