PS Plus Monthly Games for October: F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and EDF World Brothers 2

PlayStation has announced its PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for October, and the lineup is F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. The announcement was posted on the PlayStation Blog on September 30.

The three games can be added to a library from Tuesday, October 6, until Monday, November 2.

The October lineup

F1 25 is the official video game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. Single-player modes include Career and My Team 2.0, where you take on the role of a Formula 1 team owner. Online, there is a new multiplayer mode in F1 World in which you and friends race as a squad against AI drivers.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 is described by Sony as an "unforgiving extraction shooter". You hunt monsters and boss targets, compete with other players (called Hunters), claim a bounty and then try to extract alive. You can play solo or bring up to two teammates.

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 is a voxel-style spin-off of the EDF series. You pick four teammates from those you've collected, choose your gear and deploy against giant enemies. It includes soldiers from the main series and spin-offs, plus redesigned blocky versions of older enemies and some new ones. It supports four-player online co-op and two-player local split screen on PS5 and PS4.

How the monthly games work

According to Kotaku, the games are available to subscribers on all PS Plus tiers: Essential, Extra and Premium. Once you add them to your library during the claim window, you can install and play them as long as your subscription stays active.

Sony notes that the lineup may differ by region, and advises checking the PlayStation Store on release day. PS Plus is a recurring subscription that renews automatically until cancelled.

Last chance for September's games

September's lineup is still claimable until Monday, October 5. It includes Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life and Chained Echoes.

Extras for PS Plus members

Sony also says a few other perks are coming in October:

Spider-Man: Brand New Day avatars: The film arrives on Sony Pictures Core on October 6. Limited-edition avatars launch the same day, and PS Plus members can claim them in the app at no extra cost. Sony says the promotion ends October 20, 2026.
Horror-themed item bundles: For the spooky season, members can get bundles for several PS5 and PS4 games. They include the Call of Duty: Warzone Horror Bundle (October 1), the Hunt: Showdown 1896 Starter Pack (October 6) and the Overwatch 2 Dragur Reinhardt + 5 Tier skips Pack (October 7).

Not exactly Halloween

Kotaku's writer says the lineup is lighter on scares than the season suggests. Only Hunt: Showdown has spooky-adjacent vibes, in the writer's view, and F1 25 is "a solid racing game" that isn't scary at all.

What happens next

Sony has not yet announced the games that will replace this batch after November 2. Until then, the claim window from October 6 is the one to watch.
