Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Players Run Over at Spawn; Infinity Ward Patches Bug
Early-access DMZ players in Modern Warfare 4 reported being run over by enemy AI the moment they spawned. Infinity Ward says a new patch addresses it.

What players are reporting
Infinity Ward opened early access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ extraction mode overnight. Anyone who pre-ordered can now play both the campaign and DMZ. Eurogamer reports that early reactions to DMZ are fairly positive, but one issue can end a round almost as soon as it starts.
The problem involves a spawn point on the Hajin map. DMZ offers several random spawn locations, and they are often near the map's edges. That gives players time to plan a route and pick a destination before any action reaches them.
One of those spawn points, however, sits in the middle of a road. If an enemy patrol happens to be driving along it at the wrong moment, the player is flattened and the round ends.
What the clips show
Eurogamer points to two Reddit posts. User grillimperator had a short window to jump out of the way and avoided the vehicle. User Deep-Operation-3552 was not as lucky. They went down as soon as they gained control after the infil cutscene.
Commenters noted the bitter timing of the "Welcome to the DMZ" voice alert, which played just as the player died. Based on those examples, Eurogamer says there does not appear to be any spawn protection.
Being downed in DMZ can sometimes be recovered from, but only if you have the right equipment. That would not have helped here, since the players in the clips were run over twice.
Because DMZ is persistent, dying also means losing everything you brought into the match. That stings most if it was the round where you chose to bring your best gear.
Has Infinity Ward responded?
Yes, through patch notes. According to Eurogamer, the bug is one of several issues fixed in a new DMZ patch. The notes say: "Fixed some instances where enemy AI could run over players while infilling." The wording "some instances" suggests the fix may not cover every case, though the sources do not say whether any cases remain.
What happens next
Modern Warfare 4's final mode, traditional multiplayer, unlocks at full launch on Friday, 23rd October. The game arrives on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2. Players who join DMZ after the patch should be less exposed to the road-spawn problem, though the sources do not say how many cases remain.
Eurogamer also notes that players seem happy with the campaign so far. It is described as one of the best-received Call of Duty games on Steam. One player has already finished it on YOLO, the hardest single-life mode.
