Dark Messiah Community Edition Lands on Steam in 2026 With Co-Op and Restored Content
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic: Community Edition now has a Steam page, with a new co-op mode, restored cut content and console-exclusive maps, due in 2026.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is getting a big community-built upgrade on PC. The Community Edition, announced in March, now has a Steam page, and PC Gamer says it is due this year. That has players asking what is actually new.
What the new edition adds
The Steam page says the Community Edition combines the best of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (Classic) and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Elements. It rebuilds the action RPG on Valve's latest Source engine.
The headline addition is a brand-new Co-operative Mode. Players can take on the campaign with friends or try unique adventures together. There is also an endless mode called The Trials of Kha-Baleth, which continues the story as a fight for survival.
Other additions listed on the page:
- Restored cut content.
- First-class controller support and achievements.
- A renewed multiplayer component that uses Steamworks for hosting and peer-to-peer connections.
- Console-exclusive maps and modes.
- New mechanics, including sliding, new spells, new weapons and new transformations.
- Collectible relics and new challenge runes that change how the campaign and co-op are played.
The page says everything is unified, so what you see in single-player is also available in multiplayer, and the reverse.
Engine upgrades and mod tools
The Source engine port brings full Linux and Windows 64-bit support, updated rendering with cascaded shadow maps and much higher level limits. Fan-favorite mods return with official integrations, including New Game+. The developer's own Bonus Levels and Challenges now run on a new Adventure Mode framework.
The team also wants the edition to be a foundation for future mods. The store page lists Valve's VScript for custom armors, weapons, game modes, classes, enemies and skill trees. It also lists an expanded MapAdd system with an in-game toolset, and DunGen technology for tailored or randomly generated levels. The Steam listing notes a level editor, the Source SDK and Steam Workshop support.
Ubisoft's role
WiltOS Technologies ported the game and worked with the community and other modders to fold in existing mods and fan requests. According to PC Gamer, publisher Ubisoft has been a big help. The developer wrote on the Steam forum that Ubisoft is supporting the project directly and that it "would not be possible without them."
Ubisoft also invited the team to Ubisoft Montreal. There, per PC Gamer, they got the console-exclusive features working on the PC version.
What it means for you
If you own the original Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, you can wishlist the Community Edition on Steam to be notified when it becomes available. The page tags it Free To Play but says it requires the original game, so check that you own it. PC Gamer describes the release as free.
No exact release date has been confirmed, only 2026, so there is nothing to install yet.
