How to Redeem a PlayStation Store Code on PS5, PS4, the App and the Web

Got a PlayStation Store voucher or gift card and not sure where to type the code? PlayStation's official support page covers content, subscription and wallet top-up vouchers, and lists the steps for each way of redeeming them.

What you need before you start

  • The 12-digit code. PlayStation says voucher codes contain 12 digits. A 10-digit code is a discount code, which is handled differently (see below).
  • The right account. It isn't possible to transfer funds or content between accounts, so redeem on the account that should get it.
  • A matching region. The code needs to be for the same region as your account. On physical vouchers, PlayStation says to look for a printed flag showing the country or region.
  • A payment method, in some cases. To redeem some subscription vouchers, you may need a valid payment method on the account.

Steps by device

On the web

Go to PlayStation Store and select your profile at the top of the screen. Carefully enter the 12-digit code and select Continue. The credit or content is then applied to your account.

On a PS5 console

  1. Go to PlayStation Store and press the triangle button to open the menu.
  2. Carefully enter the 12-digit code and select Redeem.
  3. If a Download option appears, select it to start downloading. You can also download later.

PlayStation adds that you can redeem a code during checkout too, by choosing Redeem Codes and Gift Cards from the payment method menu. Download isn't shown for content that doesn't need one.

On a PS4 console

  1. Go to PlayStation Store, scroll to the bottom of the sidebar and select Redeem Codes.
  2. Carefully enter the 12-digit code and select Continue, then Confirm or Yes.
  3. Select Continue, then Download, to start downloading. You can also do this later.

Continue and Download don't appear for content that doesn't require a download.

In the PlayStation App

Select the PS Store icon, then the menu icon on the right side of the screen. Carefully enter the 12-digit code and select Continue. The credit or content is applied to your account.

What happens after you redeem

What you get depends on the voucher:

  • Games and add-ons: you can download the game or add-on once redeemed.
  • In-game currency, consumables and skins: no download is needed and the content becomes available, though PlayStation notes some game skins may need one.
  • Season passes: these give access to multiple sets of extra content for a game.
  • Wallet balance: you can add funds to your wallet using a PlayStation Store gift card.

If a code or its content doesn't show up

PlayStation suggests restarting your console and checking whether the content has appeared. You can also sign out of PlayStation and back in, making sure you use the account that redeemed the content. The page also links to troubleshooting help and to PlayStation Support.

To check what happened to a code, sign in to Account Management. Redeemed vouchers appear in the transaction details section.

Child accounts and discount codes

Wallet top-up voucher codes need to be redeemed on the family manager's account. The family manager can then set a monthly spending limit for the child. PlayStation Plus benefits such as monthly games and online multiplayer on child accounts are limited by age ratings and parental controls.

A 10-digit discount code works differently. PlayStation says it can be applied to your PlayStation Store shopping cart: on your device, go to PlayStation Store and add items to your Cart. The page sends readers to a separate guide for the full steps.

What it means for you

Check the digit count and the region flag before entering a code, and make sure you're signed in to the account you want to credit, because a redeemed code can't be moved. The support page doesn't describe a phone option for redeeming; it points readers to PlayStation Support for further help.

Quick answers

Can I use a PlayStation Store code more than once?

No. PlayStation says voucher codes can only be used once.

Why won't my code work?

The page says the code must be for the same region as your account and have 12 digits. A 10-digit code is a discount code, which goes through the cart instead.

Where can I see that my voucher was redeemed?

Sign in to Account Management. Redeemed vouchers appear in the transaction details section.
