Soulframe Opens Free Prelude to Everyone on Nov. 6, Days After WoW: Forever
Digital Extremes' fantasy MMORPG Soulframe drops its invite requirement on 6 November, with the Verse of the Veillands update, two days after WoW: Forever.

Soulframe is leaving invite-only testing behind. According to Eurogamer, the fantasy action MMORPG from the makers of Warframe will open its Preludes to the whole world this week, starting 6 November, ahead of the Verse of the Veillands update.
The timing is notable. It lands two days after World of Warcraft: Forever is released and in the same week as Old School RuneScape's Hardcore worlds, making it a crowded stretch for MMO fans.
How to join the Soulframe open Prelude
Anyone who wants to play can download the game and start, with no invite needed. That ends a three-year closed testing period in which players got in only through sporadic invites and brief invite events.
The source does not say which platforms or stores will carry the download, or the exact hour the doors open. Check Soulframe's official channels for those details.
Soulframe has faced delays since it was first revealed. Even while closed, Eurogamer notes it received several substantial updates, including new quests, Pacts (its classes), factions and more.
What is in Verse of the Veillands
The headline change is a total overhaul of map progression. After finishing an early quest, players enter a corrupted landscape called the Veillands, which they must purify.
As you do, new resources become available and side activities such as fishing unlock. Players can also train a small wolf pet into a full mount.
Previously, new players were dropped into the open world to figure things out on their own. The new system should act as an introduction to the open map. It will not be fully finished at release, and further Veillands updates are planned.
The update also adds a new Pact, the Ode Shrike. It is described as a tricksy trapper that uses spikes, balloon snares, bombs and chains to disrupt enemies while wearing them down.
The Warframe connection
Soulframe is Digital Extremes' newest project, and Eurogamer questions whether these additions will be enough to win players over. Meanwhile, the studio's sci-fi MMO Warframe is heading to the Tau system in December, a major next step in its narrative. That update brings a detective noir-inspired main quest, a playable Warframe and an in-universe equivalent of Poker.
What it means for you
If you have been waiting for an invite, you no longer need one: from 6 November you can download Soulframe and try it. Expect the Veillands system to be a work in progress, since the source says more updates are coming. If you play Warframe, the Tau system content is scheduled for December.
