Donald Glover to Write, Direct and Star in Live-Action PUBG Series at Netflix
Krafton has announced a live-action PUBG series at Netflix, with Donald Glover writing, directing, executive producing and starring. Here is what is confirmed so far.
A live-action TV series based on the battle royale game PUBG is in the works at Netflix, and Donald Glover is leading it. Krafton announced the project, according to Gematsu and PC Gamer.
What we know so far
According to the sources, Glover will direct, write and executive produce the series, and he will also star in it. His brother and frequent collaborator Stephen Glover is attached as a writer and executive producer.
Gematsu lists several more executive producers: Michael Schaefer for NEON TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H. Gematsu describes LV3H as Krafton's entertainment content-focused subsidiary.
PC Gamer reports that no other details about the show were announced.
Who is Donald Glover?
PC Gamer points out that Glover has won awards for writing, acting and music, the last under the stage name Childish Gambino. It cites two Primetime Emmys, two Golden Globes, five Grammys, two Peabody Awards and five Writers Guild of America Awards. Gematsu credits him with Atlanta and Community.
PC Gamer also mentions his 2018 music video for "This Is America", which it says was critically acclaimed and won multiple awards but drew controversy over its violent content. It adds that his Amazon Prime series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which premiered in 2024, earned 16 Primetime Emmy nominations for its first season.
Why a PUBG story could be open-ended
PC Gamer's writer notes that PUBG has no deep pre-existing story, unlike Halo or Fallout. In that outlet's view, this gives creators room to do their own thing. That is the outlet's opinion, not something Krafton or Netflix has said about the show's direction.
It is not yet known how closely the series will follow the game's battle royale format, or whether Glover will play a specific character. Neither source addresses these points.
What happens next
For now the series is only confirmed as "in development". Watch for further announcements from Krafton and Netflix on cast, story and timing. Until then, anything beyond the names above is speculation.
