Dead by Daylight Studio Says Chucky, Pinhead and Michael Myers Can Return

Behaviour Interactive says licensed horror icons removed from Dead by Daylight, including Chucky, Pinhead and Michael Myers, have an open invitation to come back.

Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead by Daylight, has responded to questions about the game's disappearing licensed killers. It says the removals are not something it wants, and that it would bring characters like Chucky, Pinhead and Michael Myers back if it gets the chance. The comments, first given to IGN and reported by VGC, follow the announcement of Chucky's upcoming exit.

What the studio said

Last week, Behaviour announced that the Chucky Chapter will leave the game on November 24. That includes Chucky as a playable killer and the Legendary Outfit featuring his bride Tiffany.

In its statement to IGN, the studio said its goal is "always to keep licenses in our game forever." When one has to go, it said, that is because it wasn't possible to retain it "despite our best efforts." VGC's summary is that a character's licence can expire and the studio does not always succeed in renewing it.

The studio stressed that if an opportunity to bring Chucky back comes up later, it will take it. It also said that Dead by Daylight "will always be gaming's House of Horror."

What happens to Chucky content you own

Behaviour says Chucky will remain part of the game for existing owners. Anyone who already owns The Good Guy, his perks or any associated cosmetics will still be able to use them after November 24, 2026.

According to the game's official account, the Chapter and its associated content will be removed from in-game and first-party stores on that date. Chucky joined the game nearly three years ago, per the same post.

Other characters that have left

Michael Myers, the Halloween slasher, was removed in January. Hellraiser's Pinhead was removed last year.

The studio has not given specific reasons for individual removals. VGC notes that some people have pointed to the releases of Halloween: The Game and Hellraiser: Revival as possible factors for Myers and Pinhead. That is observation from players, not something the studio has confirmed in these comments.

VGC also stresses that Chucky's removal is no sign that a Child's Play game starring Chucky and Tiffany is in development. His only starring game role to date was the 2013 mobile endless runner Chucky: Slash & Dash, according to VGC. He has also appeared as a playable character in Funko Fusion, Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Comebacks have happened before

A return is not unprecedented. VGC points out that the Demogorgon from Stranger Things was removed from Dead by Daylight in 2021 and came back two years later.

What it means for you

If you want to play as Chucky, or buy his perks or cosmetics, the window closes on November 24, 2026, when the Chapter leaves the stores. If you already own the content, you keep it. The studio has not announced any plans or dates for Chucky, Pinhead or Michael Myers to return, so the "open invitation" is a statement of intent rather than a promise.
