Destiny 2 Unvaulting Timeline Revealed in Bungie's October Community Update
Bungie's October 29 Community Update is a Q&A, not patch notes: it sets out how Destiny 2 unvaulting will work and when the work is expected to finish.

Despite the search interest in "patch notes," the October 2026 Bungie Community Update does not list balance changes, weapons, maps or bug fixes. It is a blog post with a Q&A with Josh Deane, Bungie's Head of Product, about the plan to restore vaulted Destiny 2 content and when players can expect it.
What the update is
Bungie says the Community Update is a new blog format and will not become a weekly series like This Week in Destiny. It will cover Destiny, Marathon and general studio news, and will arrive only when there is something meaningful to say.
Bungie also says it is looking at smaller, more casual ways to talk to players, and names podcasts, livestreams and AMAs as possibilities. On the Marathon side, it has started a series of Dev Insights leading into Symbiosis and the March Update.

What unvaulting covers first
Deane describes the first pass as getting the campaign slate "whole again," available to all players. It specifically targets the activity content of Campaigns, Strikes and Raids from vaulted expansions. Menagerie, which players have asked to see return for years, will be part of it.
Deane says the aim of "wholeness" is not only unvaulting but restoring Destiny's past, present and future, with unvaulting as the starting point.
Timeline and stretch goals
According to Push Square and PC Gamer, Bungie says the work is in pre-production, expected to run until January or February 2027. Deane said full production would then take about 12 months to complete the porting process, which puts the finish in early 2028. Bungie says it is currently "on track."
After the first pass, Push Square reports that Bungie lists "stretch goals" it will consider: free roam destinations, seasonal activities, raid and raid lair weapon updates, and PvP maps. PC Gamer adds that a third group of items is unlikely to happen "for technical and/or strategic reasons."
What else Bungie teased
Deane named three "anchors" for what comes next, according to PC Gamer:
- A Destiny 2 celebration, beyond Monument of Triumph, with new updates for the community. More details are to come.
- "Destiny Legacy," built on the idea that the whole experience should be available "where you play today," with more information expected early next year.
- A redacted event, which Push Square says Bungie described only as "We're back."
PC Gamer reads the second anchor as a sign that the original Destiny could come to PC. Bungie has not confirmed that in the sources provided.
Bungie also ties its future to Marathon, with updates planned for December and March.
What happens next
Nothing in this update changes how Destiny 2 plays today. The next information on the celebration, Destiny Legacy and the redacted event is expected in early 2027, and Push Square points to February 2027. Unvaulted content is not expected until early 2028, and Bungie says some plans could change.
