Motherwell team news

Manager Alfred Johansson gave a squad update ahead of the game. He said he was pleased that all players who had been away on international duty returned in perfect health.

The bad news is Dylan Williams. Johansson said the player picked up an injury and "will be away from us for some weeks", and confirmed it was hamstring-related. He added that he does not expect anyone to return from injury for this game.

Regan Charles-Cook will also miss out. Johansson said the club had the chance to build a proper return-to-play programme for him and expects to see him back "very, very soon".

Who was away on international duty

Several Motherwell players travelled during the break, according to the club:

  • Maswanhise (Zimbabwe): played the full match in a 3-2 away win over Sierra Leone in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, getting one assist. He played the first 45 minutes of the defeat to DR Congo.
  • Alex Paulsen (New Zealand): kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over China and played the full Kirin Cup final, which Japan won 2-1.
  • Jamie Knight-Lebel (Canada): came on in wins over Chile (1-0) and Peru (2-0).
  • Jardell Kanga (Sweden U21): started a 3-0 defeat to Poland and was an unused substitute in a 2-0 win over North Macedonia.
  • Thomson and Zander McAllister (Scotland): Thomson started against Ukraine, a 2-0 defeat. McAllister, with the Under-19s, played 90 minutes in a 3-1 win over Finland and started the 2-0 loss to Ukraine.
