What has changed

Sony appears to be pulling back on PSVR2 sales. Fans have noticed over the past few weeks that the headset is missing from the US PlayStation Direct store, and Push Square confirmed the gap with its own search.

The PS5 accessories section still has a PSVR2 heading. Under it, shoppers only find the charging station, the PC adapter and a third-party case. The headset itself is not offered.

Push Square reports that it found no sign of the device anywhere on the US site. It also says the headset is still on sale on the UK side of PlayStation Direct.

What Road to VR found

Push Square points to a regional data deep dive from Road to VR. That outlet says the headset began disappearing from regional PlayStation Direct pages in mid-October, which is when fans first noticed. The link that used to lead to the PSVR2 purchase page was producing a 404 error.

Third-party sellers still list stock at Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart, according to the report. Those listings carry large markups over the normal price, with Best Buy's at around $750. Push Square concludes that buying a PSVR2 at its recommended price is harder than ever.

What Sony has and hasn't said

None of the provided sources contains a statement from Sony saying PSVR2 is discontinued. Push Square's headline says only that Sony is "seemingly" winding down sales, and the outlet says the headset "may" be on its way out. A temporary stock issue has not been ruled out by any official source.

Sony's UK store page still offers the headset at £399.99, with the option to pay in three instalments through Klarna or lease it. That page also lists an out-of-warranty exchange service for faulty headsets.

Background

Push Square notes that Sony's first-party support for the headset has been thin. It says Sony stopped making dedicated PSVR2 games after Horizon Call of the Mountain, though third-party studios have kept releasing VR titles. The outlet also reports that Sony recently sold its VR patents to Meta. Push Square treats that sale as another sign that Sony is unlikely to pursue VR in the future.

What it means for you

If you want a PSVR2 in the US, the official store is no longer an option. The only listings are from third-party sellers, and those cost far more than the headset normally does. In the UK, the headset is still available directly from Sony at £399.99.

Black Friday could show how Sony is handling the product. Last year it cut $100 from the price during the sales period. Push Square says it is unclear whether a discount will return this year, or whether there will be enough stock to support one.
