Nintendo Says It Has No Plans for Another Switch 2 Price Hike
Nintendo says it has enough memory to keep building Switch 2 consoles and is not planning another price increase, easing worries after September's hike.

Nintendo has told investors it isn't planning to raise the price of the Switch 2 again. The comment came with its latest earnings, and buyers worried about another rise now have a clear answer for now.
According to Eurogamer, which cites a Reuters report quoting Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, the company has access to enough memory to manufacture more consoles. That is why it does not expect to raise the price.
Why the question came up
Nintendo already raised the Switch 2's price earlier this year. Eurogamer says the increase took effect on 1 September in the US, Canada, Japan and Europe, and added $50, €30 or ¥10,000 depending on the region. VGC puts the US price at $500 after the rise.
The pressure behind price hikes is the global shortage of memory and storage, which Eurogamer links to demand from AI. Sony and Microsoft have already raised console prices because of it. Eurogamer says PlayStation raised PS5 and PS5 Pro prices several times, and Xbox has done the same for Series X and Series S, most recently in August.
VGC notes that every current-generation console now costs more than it did at launch.

Sales and the wider picture
Nintendo reported results for the first half of its fiscal year alongside the comments. VGC says profits fell 16%, which it largely attributes to a 37% drop in Switch 2 sales. The console has sold 26.35 million units, according to VGC, and Nintendo says it is still outselling its predecessor.
Eurogamer adds that hardware sales have declined for several quarters since the console's strong launch in 2025.
There is one loose end. Eurogamer reports that one of Nintendo's longtime ROM suppliers is leaving the business to focus on more profitable areas. ROM memory is used in Switch cartridges. Nintendo has not commented on that news.
VGC says the memory shortage is expected to last into 2027. It describes Nintendo's stance as an effort to hold the current price until supply catches up with demand, though no one knows when that will be.
What it means for you
If you've been waiting to buy a Switch 2 and fear another jump, Nintendo's message is that it has no plans for one. That is a statement of current plans, not a price guarantee, and VGC frames it as covering "any time soon."
VGC also says The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, a Switch 2 exclusive, launches today. The company is likely hoping it will help sell consoles going into the holiday season.
